Bed and breakfast and Self-catering cottages

THE HOUSE

The house, restored in 1861 as a working farm, once again offers rest and comfort to the traveller. At the house your hosts, David and Jackie Bishop , offer a warm welcome and provide bed and breakfast for the traveller or tourist.

BedroomAlternatively, accommodation in one of the self-catering cottages, skilfully created from old farm buildings adjacent to the house, is available for those seeking a little more independence.

Accommodation at Toghill in one of the tastefully decorated double rooms offers a high level of comfort and the privacy which many seek. Combine this with a traditional English breakfast prepared from the farm's own produce and you will soon understand why many guests return time after time.

Dining roomThere is a choice of rooms with either double or twin beds and all have en suite bathrooms. All rooms have television and tea/coffee making facilities.

Built in 1691 and formerly used as a resting house for monks en route to Glastonbury from Malmesbury, Toghill House stands on the very edge of the Cotswolds and just 3½ miles north of Bath.

Within a stone's throw of the site of the battle of Landsdown and with the Cotswold Way and the old east to west Roman road running through the garden, Toghill is steeped in history.

Toghill itself enjoys far reaching views towards the river Severn and Bristol Channel with the hills of Wales and the spectacular Brecon Beacons as a backdrop. It is the ideal spot from which to plan your exploration of the region.

To the north - Gloucester and Cheltenham are less than an hour away and Berkeley Castle with all its sinister beauty and the wild fowl trust at Slimbridge are also close by. The arboretum at Westonbirt, near Tetbury; Dyrham House its architecture and deer park and Badminton House, the mecca of three-day eventing, are all within easy reach.

To the south - Within five minutes drive lies the city of Bath, with its elegant Georgian architecture and remarkable Roman Baths. It also boasts one of the finest shopping centres in England and the magnificent Theatre Royal which often plays host to many aspiring London West End productions.

To the east - Within five minutes the unspoilt village of Castle Combe and thirty minutes further on the picturesque village of Lacock, the birthplace of modern photography, with its museum and abbey.

To the west - The city of Bristol has such attraction as the Avon Gorge and suspension bmapridge, the SS Great Britain and the maritime museum, plus the attractively redeveloped dockside precinct, all within fifteen minutes drive. Further west the Severn bridge leads into Wales with Chepstow, Tintern Abbey and the Wye valley.
