Bradford on Avon and Bath

Hillcrest is ideally situated in the village of Winsley 2 miles from Bradford on Avon and 6 miles from Bath. Winsley is a typical quiet English village where houses are built of stone. A quaint 17th century village pub is approximately 10 minutes walk away.

One of the most beautiful and interesting places in the South West of England. The rolling countryside embraces the River Avon and the recently restored Kennet and Avon Canal.

Bradford on Avon is a picturesque part medieval/part Saxon town on the southern edge of the Cotswold Hills. This lovely old town with its quaint streets and an abundance of antique shops, gift shops and traditional tea rooms which give the visitor a feeling that time has stood still.

A delightful riverside walk will take you past the 14th century Tithe Barn, which was once the granary for Shaftesbury Abbey, over the ancient Packhorse Bridge and along to the Saxon church of St. Laurence believed to date from 700 AD.

Bath is an all year round resort with its many parks, museums, restaurants and pavement cafes giving the city a truly cosmopolitan feel. The elegant shops and Theatre Royal reflect the style and wealth of this wonderful city.

A recent guide described Bath as having vibrant summers, mellow autumns, bewitching winters and vibrant springs. Although Bath's foundations are Roman, this Georgian city is one of the most elegant and beautiful cities in the world.

Both double bedrooms are individually furnished to a high standard, have colour T.V and a radio alarm clock. Tea/coffee making facilities are provided together with biscuits and fresh fruit. Beds have continental quilts and electric blankets. A Corby trouser press is available in each room.

Each bedroom has an en-suite shower room of a good size with 120 and 240 volt shaver points. Bath and hand towels are provide together with a range of quality toiletries.

Wiltshire's beautiful countryside offers the tourist a wonderful opportunity to explore.

The area is well served by traditional country pubs often dating back to the 16th or 17h century, many serving real ale and offering an excellent range of food.

However, if all you wish to do at the end of a perfect day is relax, you are welcome to spend a quite evening in the library/guest sitting room.

Surrounded by old dry-stone walls Hillcrest has magnificent views across the Avon Valley. Someone once said, 'On a clear day you can see for ever' well the view from Hillcrest doesn't reach quite that far, but very nearly.

A regular bus service runs from the village to both Bradford on Avon and Bath. Hillcrest has plenty of off-street parking. There is a main line railway station at Bath and a branch line at Bradford on Avon.

Local facilities include fishing, horse riding, swimming, tennis motor racing at Castle Coombe, clay pigeon shooting, golf, 9 and 18 hole, and a driving range. There are beautiful walks, parks, gardens, museums and stately homes. Boat trips and balloon flights are also popular in the area. Cycle hire is available along the canal towpath.
